Use Re-Spin when the processed base needs to become softer or creamier. Use Mix-In when the base texture is already acceptable and you want to distribute pieces through it. The buttons are not interchangeable, and Mix-In is not the normal fix for a crumbly pint.
The decision in ten seconds
| What you see | Next action |
|---|---|
| Dry, powdery, or crumbly after the instructed first cycle | Re-Spin |
| Smooth texture, no chunks desired | Serve |
| Smooth texture, add-ins desired | Make a well, add pieces, then Mix-In |
| Still very dry after Re-Spin and the recipe permits liquid | Add the recipe's small measured amount, then Re-Spin |
| Liquid center or pint not frozen solid | Stop and check the recipe and model instructions |
What Re-Spin does
Ninja describes Re-Spin as a way to make an already processed treat softer and creamier. It is the logical second step when a lean or very cold protein base comes out sandy or crumbly after its primary program.
- Finish the program specified by your recipe.
- Open the pint and inspect the entire surface.
- If it is uniformly crumbly, run Re-Spin.
- Only add liquid if the exact recipe allows it. Ninja's Chocolate Protein Ice Cream recipe suggests 1–2 tablespoons of milk before Re-Spin when the result is crumbly.
What Mix-In does
Mix-In distributes small pieces through a processed base. Official Ninja protein recipes direct users to create a roughly 1½-inch-wide hole to the bottom of the pint, place the mix-ins in that well, and choose Mix-In.
Use pieces your owner's guide permits and size them appropriately. Cookies, chocolate chips, and similar add-ins also change the nutrition of the finished pint.
What not to do
- Do not use Mix-In just because the base looks dry.
- Do not add a large unmeasured splash of milk before checking the recipe.
- Do not add mix-ins before the primary processing cycle unless the recipe specifically says to.
- Do not assume every CREAMi model has identical controls or container limits.
Three examples
Chocolate pint, crumbly after Lite Ice Cream
Use Re-Spin. If the official recipe you followed permits it and the pint remains crumbly, add only its stated small amount of milk and Re-Spin again.
Chocolate pint, creamy but needs chips
Make the prescribed well, add appropriately sized chips, and use Mix-In.
Pint is icy even after Re-Spin
The formula may have too much unbalanced water or another recipe problem. Work through our icy-pint diagnosis before adding random ingredients.
